In 1875, he gravitated to the Black Hills of Deadwood, South Dakota. He became a regular at the gambling tables of Saloon No. 10 where he was shot in the back of head by Jack McCall. Hickok was holding two pair – Aces and Eights – which became known as the Deadman’s Hand.
Calamity Jane also ventured to Deadwood, S.D. in 1876, not long before Wild Bill was slain there. She claimed a long and intimate relationship with the famous gunfighter, thus creating this magnificent western legend in Duo – a beautiful series of nearly life-sized busts in bronze depicting pairs of great personalities tied together by history.
